Hello :)

All traders, from beginner to advanced and experienced, should have a trading journal and record all the trades they make with exact entry price, date and time and also chart screenshot. Then they should sit and check all the trades and compare the good and the bad trades and find their mistakes. It saves hundreds of hours of your time to become expert in your trading system. But if you don't record your trades and don't analyze your success and failure, and if you run away from your bad trades and mistakes, it will take you a lot of time and money to become expert and experienced in trading and your system and it is possible that you give up during this long process.

Therefore, create a trading journal for yourself today and record all your trades. Let Forexoma.com hosts your trading journal. Click Here and start your trading journal.

Hi Vahid

I have been wanted to start a trading journal recently and have been thinking of using Microsoft Excel to keep track. I haven't been able to find any good templates online (excel files or otherwise) to base my journal on. Do you (or anybody) know of a good source online where I can find an excel spreadsheet trading log to use as a basis for my own. (Or does anybody have one themselves and are willing to share it). Thanks!

Hi,

I personally prefer to create and edit my trading journals with Microsoft FrontPage that generates .htm files. The reason is that it doesn't have any limitation for adding the screenshots. Excel is good if you like to keep the track of number of pips earned/lost but you will have problems with your screenshots. Trading journal should be used for a different purpose. In trading journal, you don't care how much you have earned or lost. In trading journal you analyze your signal, your entry and exist and you compare your good and bad trades. So having a screenshot is necessary.

Hi guys, Newbie to the forum. Was just going thru it to see what is happening. I was recommended by a Friend so here I am.

Anyways back to the topic. Agreed it's absolutley vital to have a journal. AND to review it periodically to help you understand your trading psychology better (especially after a run of losses!)

Many people with many ideas/styles so heres my 2 cents worth...

I use onenote for the "written" part of the journal and screen shots, ideas, thoughts and the like. I have spent some time developing an excel spreadsheet that keeps track of the pips n dollars n averages, pips/day, pips/ week.

If you are interested in having a look then just email me (the file is too large to post here)...

Cheers for now, I'm off to check out the rest of the site..

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks a lot for your participation and also for your tendency to share your ideas and your files.

It is good to keep the track of pips and money made/lost in trading journal, BUT, as I have already said, the main purpose of trading journal is analyzing the decision and the signal that the decision is made based on it. You can see the number of pips or the money in the statement that your trading platform gives you.

No teacher is better than your trading journal, when you sit and compare your good and bad trades.

Hi

I use MW Snap for screen shots. It freeware, easy to use and very powerful. As well as the obvious copy to clipboard it can auto save every screen shot with pre-formatted file names, or prompt for a name every time.
It can be found at

MetaTrader also saves charts with any size that you want. Easy and fast.
